In today's society it is sometimes easy to forget how fragile life was during childbirth for both mother and child 300+ years ago. We need to be thankful for the medical environment we have today.
As an example, Henry Miller, Jr, of Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire was married at least three times, and at least two of his wives died immediately after childbirth, as did those two children. Other children died before reaching the age of 1.
As a side note, Henry Miller Junior's grandfather was christened as Henry Milward and his son was christened as Henry Millard. Both Henry Miller, Jr and his father were collarmakers, in the 1600s very ornate - separate post to follow.
