​Rodgers/Rogers Ancestors :

​Rodgers ancestors were farmers or soldiers seeking new homes in a new world like many other families who immigrated from European countries to what we know as North America today. They mainly settled in the New York Province area and later immigrated to Upper Canada.  

The first records that this writer has of an Rogers ancestor is the claim of loss that William Rogers Jr. submitted about 1776 for his losses from the war. 

William Rogers Jr. son, Gideon was born in Rombout Precinct, Dutchess Co., New York Province but immigrated to Upper Canada about 1795. Records show he was living in Fishkill Dutchess Co., in the 1790 census with many of his immediate family.

Gideon immigrated to Upper Canada in about 1795 as his youngest child Magdalena was born in Fredericksburg, Lennox/Addington Co.,  in 1796. This writer’s  4x great-grandfather James Matthew Rodgers was Gideon & Rachel Van Zuylen youngest son and the last to be born in New York Province. 

James Matthew Rodgers married Jane Lindsay in  Kingston, Frontenac Co., circa 1816. Jane was the daughter of James Lindsay UEL  and Anna Hannah Wager DUE. James and Jane Rodgers had 10 children.​

I. Matthew Patrick Rodgers and children:

The eldest of James & Jane’s children Matthew Patrick is this writer’s  3rd great-grandfather.

Matthew Patrick married Lucinda Ann Thompson on 12 May 1839 in Kingston, Frontenac County, Upper Canada.

Matthew & Lucinda had 8 children 5 sons & 3 daughters, the first 4 children were born in Denbigh, Lennox/Addington Co., and the last 4 were born in Tweed, Hastings Co., Hungerford Twp.

​1. John E Rodgers was the eldest son of Matthew Patrick and Lucinda Ann Rodgers he married Hannah Melissa Laronge  in 1866. They had 2 sons and 5 daughters.

2. Martha Ann Alice Rodgers was the 2 sd child of Matthew Patrick & Lucinda Ann Thompson. Martha Ann out live 3 husbands and passed about 14 June, 1946 without issue in her 101 st year.

3. Samuel James Rodgers the 2 sd son of Matthew Patrick & Lucinda Ann Thompson he first married Hannah Youmans in 1867 and they had 10 children after Hannah passed Samuel married Catherine Amelia Stuffles in 1901 and had 7 more children. Between his 2 wives Samuel James had 17 children.

A.  Walter Dennis Rodgers was the eldest child of Samuel James Rodgers & Hannah Youmans and he first married Helen Harrison in 1890. Walter D & Helen had 3 sons and a daughter that died shortly after birth. Walter D remarried after Helen died in 1910 a Euphamie Aubrey. Helen Harrison's parents were Robert Harrison & Huldah Jane Pringle

 III. Lawrence Roy was the 3rd son of Walter Dennis & Helen  Harrison he married a Lily Rose Slater in 1918 and they first had triplet daughters who all died shortly after birth and then another daughter & son. Little is known about Lawrence & Lily's family

E.  Elmira Fidelia Rodgers was the 5th child of Samuel James Rodgers & Hannah Youmans she married James Edward Slater on August 28th 1899, James died on April 11th 1907, Elmira and James had 4 daughters. Elmira then married William Beck on May 4th 1910 and she had another 3 daughters and a son.

F. Herman Rodgers was the 6th child of Samuel James Rodgers & Hannah Youmans, there is no record that has been found of a marriage for Herman

H. James Rodgers was the 8th child of Samuel James Rodgers & Hannah Youmans James married a Stella Schmidt from Buffalo New York on November 23rd 1932 and resided there after marriage, very little is known about James after his marriage.

J. Samuel Oakley Rodgers is the youngest child of Samuel James Rodgers & Hannah Youmans Sam married Matilda Cole on May 04 1910 Sam & Matilda had 5 children 2 of whom died shortly after birth.

8. Jemima Mary Emily Rodgers was the 8th child of Matthew Patrick & Lucinda Ann Thompson. Jemima Mary Emily married Theodore Robert Thompson s/o John Benjamin Thompson & Louise Ursula Welbanks on 10 Jul 1880 they had 11 children.

 Hannah W Rodgers was the 2sd child of James Matthew & Jane Lindsay Rodgers. Hannah married James  Stuffles in 1838. Hannah and James had 8 children 6 daughters & 2 sons. ​

2. Lonson James Rodgers the second son of James & Catherine married Margaret Jane Lucas in 1871. Lonson & Margaret had only 1 daughter Mary Catherine and she married William Billa Akey in 1890. They had 2 daughters Pearl Helen and Ethel Leona who married Milton Arthur Kleinsteuber.

Sarah Jane Rodgers was the 5th child of James Matthew & Jane Lindsay and married her first cousin John Lindsay in 1838 and they had 2 daughters that is known of

VI. Mary Jane Rodgers and descendants

Mary Jane Rodgers was the 6th child of James Matthew & Jane Lindsay and married Andrew Henry Sinclair her first cousin, Mary Jane & Andrew Sinclair had 7 children but 3 were taken in the small pox epidemic along with Mary Jane leaving Andrew with 4 children. Andrew then married Hannah Ellen Lindsay his 2sd cousin and he had 6 more children.

Samuel Ephriam was the 7th child of James Matthew & Jane Lindsay married his first cousin Mary Elizabeth Lindsay in 1854 and they had 3 sons and a daughter.
1. Ellis Wesley who married Margaret Jane Woodcock with an issue of 13 children,
2. Samuel Oakley who married his first cousin Almira Alice Sinclair with 8 children,
3. Adam Levi no known records about Adam
