In the 1600s Cranfield was a small village, in fact as late as 1800 there were only 147 houses in the village. The photo is the interior of the church of St Peter and St Paul.
In examining the Parish Records, so far only 1600 to the 1660s, it is obvious there was only one Millard family in the Village at that time. Due to the work of a cousin, Earl Millard, we have the last will of William Millard, a blacksmith, and know he was not born in Cranfield, but his children were. Some Huguenots were metal workers, and we believe William was a Huguenot.
A number of Ancestry Tree records show the oldest ancestor of this branch of the Millard family was George Millard, born Cranfield in 1602 and married to Mary Field. However, the Parish records clearly show George, son of William, was born in April 1614, married Bridget Welles in 1639, had 4 children, William, Isabel, Mary, and Bridget, and died in 1656.
