Anna Harriett Emma Edwards was born November 26, 1831 in Ahmednuggar, India to Thomas Edwards (a Sergeant in the East India Company Army Infantry) and Mary Ann Glasscott (born about 1815 in India to William Vawdrey Glascott and an unidentified Indian woman). Anna died in 1915 in Montréal, Quebec, Canada.
Anna's sister, Eliza Julia Edwards was born in 1830 in Ahmednuggar, India and at the age of 15 married James Millard, a Sergeant Major in the British Army in India; their descendants now live in Australia and in England.
Anna married young (in India) and found herself widowed with two young children, and after some adventures became governess to the children of King Mongkut (Rama IV). Anna WAS the fabled Anna of Anna and the King of Siam.
There is some controversy about Anna's story and history, explored in a book written by Susan Morgan in 2008. You may read more about the book and it's revelations at http://recollections.liblog.wheaton.edu/2008/10/10/bombay-anna-published-from-special-collections-research/
