My maternal grandmother, Florence Irene Foshay was born in Hallowell Township, Prince Edward County in 1897. She married Mitchel Julius Kleinsteuber in 1921, after being widowed from her first husband who died at the age of 27.
Florence's mother was Effie Caroline Orser, wife of George Bartlett Foshay, and both of his parents were descended from UEL families, however we never knew her mother's full name or her parents family backgrounds.... until this past week.
Effie's mother was Mary Jane Demill who was born in 1837 to Anthony Demill and Sarah Schuler Demill in Sophiasburgh Township, both of whom also came from UEL families and settled in Prince Edward County. Her father was John Brown Orser born in 1817 to Elijah Orser and Rachel Brown. The Orser family were also UEL and settled in the Kingston and Prince Edward County area.
In 1919, the recently widowed Florence Sprung was working at the historic Lakeshore Hotel in Prince Edward County at the SW corner of Lake Ontario and the Sandbanks.... which is when she met my grandfather, Mitchel, who was living with his parents on a farm just across the Sandbanks on the West Lake shoreline. This photo was taken at the Lakeshore Hotel in 1919.
The background parentage has been found thanks to some sleuthing and some assistance from a Demill family genealogist, Laurie Demill, and from an Orser family genealogist, Debby Worden. Many thanks to both!
