There are a number of genealogy records relating to Huguenots in Maulden.
a) "George Bunker, b. c. 1620-22 Nancy, France, capital of the Department of Meuse; to London with his parents as Huguenot refugees; m. 5 May, 1644 Maulden, Bedfordshire, England; to Ipswich, Mass. 1650; d. 6 May 1658, Topsfield, Mass., drowned while crossing the river with a loaded wagon.
b) The GUILE spelling seems to have several sources.
In CT it seems to be Huguenot by way of England and Scotland. When I was in Maulden, Bedfordshire last year I talked to a man by that spelling and he said that the name was Huguenot.
c) William was a French Huguenot. He was married to JOANNE on May 5 1644 in Maulden, Bedfordshire, England. .
d) I have been delving into the history of the Madams/Maddams Family for 35 years with the help of various other members of our scattered clan. Late 19th century members of the family in Bedfordshire claimed that we descended from a group of French Huguenots and this legend persists in various parts of the country in various forms where outcrops of the family developed.
e) William BETTS was born about 1551 in Maulden, Bedfordshire, England.(Huguenot Registry of Names).
