Records for our Texas Kleinsteuber cousins start with Christian Anton Kleinsteuber, born circa 1791 at an unknown location, but we wish to believe it was in the same general Gotha District area as so many other of our extended Kleinsteuber family. What we do know is that at his death he was living in Trebnitz.
His grandson, Adolph Kleinsteuber, was born in 1852 in Trebnitz or Zeitz, two nearby communities south of Leipzig (and not very far from Schafstädt, origin of our Schafstädt Kleinsteubers). Eisenach (where the photo of Adolph was taken) is in the general Gotha area, the origin of most of our Kleinsteuber ancestors, and Eisenach is 174 km from Trebnitz.
The Thuringia Railway was built between Eisenach and Leipzig in 1856 - 1857 while Adolph was still a child, so it was easy for him to travel to Eisenach as he became an adult.
By all appearances, Adolph had a successful life, in the photo in later years he certainly did not look like a farmer or labourer. Adolph married Elise Göppel in 1874 and they had two sons, Alfred and John. We believe John was baptised as Johann (Hans) Heinrich Kleinsteuber as he once recorded his name this way and occasionally showed his name as John H H Kleinsteuber (and his son, Wilmer, used the same initials).
